Guts: Flames

"So you give up every chance you get
                                Just to Feel New Again!"
                                            -Emergency(Paramore)

The narrow alley from the backdoor led us to various paths. Together, we were 15 people.
Uri stopped. “What’s wrong?” I asked.
“We can go to my brother’s apartment.”
“Ernest? How can we be sure there aren’t any giggles there? Worse, if HE’S not a giggle.”
He smiled. “He’s much better than that.”
The route to Ernest’s apartment wasn’t a very long or complex one, just a simple strait from Winfreed Street to Fringe Street.
There were some giggles wandering around the area. Before we could continue, we heard a scream.
“Nina!” One of the survivor boys, Tyler, shouted. The girl, Nina, was being stabbed in the chest 4 times. A hobo Giggle.
Nina fell to the ground, dead. Tyler fumbled for his weapon, a meat cleaver. But it was too late. The blade was already on his throat.
Luke smashed the Giggle’s head in with his crowbar.
“Go! Go! GO!”
Ernest’s apartment was nearby; we just have to run for it. Luke unhooked his crowbar from the hobo and followed us.
There were 4 Giggles in sight. I rushed at them. The biker guy first. With my axe, his head rolled off his shoulders when the blade met his neck.
“Wirick! Duck!” I did. Vivi pulled the trigger. The lady fell dead with a bullet hole in her head.
The other 2 was backing away. “Don’t let them escape!” They ran for it.
Ms. Aria fired staples at high speed, but it barely did anything to the giggle. Jessica, with her good hand, threw her box cutter with amazing strength. It hit the running giggle’s back strong enough to stun him. Dianne grabbed her bat and bashed its head in.
The other one escaped. No use worrying about it. Ernest’s apartment was in sight.
His apartment was barracked with various bikes and cars.
Urien was right. Ernest was much smarter than he looked.
“E! Can you hear me?!” Uri shouted. A window opened.
Ernest, Urien’s brother, was far from Urien. If Urien was just an ordinary teenager by looks, Ernest looked different. Uri had brown hair, Ernest had black. Uri fell short to his height. The only thing they had in common in appearance was their green eyes.
“Uri. You’re alive! I thought you were dead.” Uri threw a rock at him.
“Ok! Ok! Sorry!” He had Urien’s sense of humor, but felt more cynical or deadpan in comparison to Uri.
A hole opened from the car blocking the entrance.
“Get in.” We did as told. Ernest’s apartment looked like the Ignition never happened.
Electricity, food, internet.
“Ohhh, Thank GOD. I need to use facebook.” Dianne said.
“Fuck Facebook! I doubt it’d be up after all this.” Jessica said.
“Oh? Hayley Williams says otherwise!” She was right. Facebook was up. Hayley Williams had updated her page with “No sign of Giggles today. Taylor still wounded. Jeremy looking for help. SOS, if you see this” I guess even stars are having trouble.
But, how the hell was Facebook still up?!
“Ok everyone, meeting. Now.” Ernest had rounded us up.
“I have a plan that can shut down this madness.” A plan? I thought Gyros cant be stopped! I listened intently.
“There’s a reason we aren’t affected by the Gyros. Did anyone notice? We have a sort of connection to imagination. Our Imagination is big enough to resist the mind control. Urien, your imagination stems from your song writing. Wirick, yours from your love of short stories. Ms. Aria, your an English teacher. You tell me. You get the picture.” He sipped coffee from his mug.
“The Gyros is artificial. Man Made.” That took me by surprise. I had always thought the Ignition was caused by some sort of supernatural causes.
“I had traced files from the military that found the cause.” What IS Ernest’s job?
“A man by the name, Yoli. He used a sort of drill to create a hole to the center of the earth. With it, he dropped a line and inserted some sort of component in it. With it, the Ignition was nearly complete. With what technology he had, he inserted the line to a satellite and translated the Gyros into the unwilling minds of people. If we can cut the line free from the core, we can stop the satellite, stop the Gyros, and kill Yoli.”
This information had struck me harder than when I found out Chuck was ending.
If we do this... Everything will be back to normal.
“I’ll give you all a night to think about this. IF you decide to join in the fight, we leave at dawn. The rest can stay here. There are weapons in my closet. Do NOT get out of this apartment.
That night, we were divided by 2 bedrooms. The guys have Ernest’s room. The Girls had the spare.
With the revelation of todays disaster, I really couldn’t sleep. A lot of the younger survivors decided to stay here. I got up from my cot and went to the living room.
Vivi.
She was sitting in the couch, looking perplexed.
“Can’t sleep?” I ask. A nod.
“I just can’t help feeling sad.” I raised an eyebrow. “You’re sad we can end this?” She shakes her head.
“No. Sad cause... I had to kill my parents to stay alive. I killed them, when I could’ve spared them. If I hadn’t killed them, they may have skewered me with a knife, but... I could’ve gone back to them if I had finished this.” I stayed silent. Tears were springing from her eyes. I had to leave home too, but I got out before I could lay a finger on my parents. With a comforting hand, I placed all the sympathy I could muster for the day into her.

The next morning, Ernest rounded up everyone in a huddled circle like we were in football.
“Ok, let me get this right. Everyone coming will be myself, Wirick, Uri, Ms. Aria, Vivi, Dianne, Jessica, Luke, and Mike. Everyone else is staying here.”
Everyone remains silent.
“Well, I have no objections. If we do this, we have to be ready to give away our lives. This mission is the only thing that can actually turn things back to normal. We leave in 30ish. Grab whatever you want from the Weapons closet and any gear you think you’d want to bring with you. After 30 minutes, we’ll meet up downstairs.”
The team dispersed. The survivors who didn’t want to go with us were huddled in a room wearing Pajamas that Ernest had managed to ransack from a box of old things and were watching reruns of How I Met Your Mother.
The Weapons Closet was a large, wooden door that would normally look like something you’d put clothes in. When opened, an array of weapons, firearms and melee alike, were neatly arranged like plates in a cupboard. I couldn’t help but ask.
“Did you always have these?” There was a hint of fear in my tone. I’ve known Ernest and Uri since I was just 7. I’ve been to this apartment more than once. While Ernest was elusive and mysterious about his career, I never pegged him as the type to keep dangerous weapons in his closet.
There was a grin on his face as if he was reading my thoughts.
“No.” He had said so surely
“Then where’d you get this stuff?”
“I was at a police station when the Ignition happened. I was bailing a friend out. Then the police where either going out the streets or trying to rip us to pieces. I had to kill them. When we were sure no one was left, We ran for the weapons room. I grabbed everything and we ran for our apartment.” Friend? Well, where was he? If he were with him, he should be here too. It dawned on to me that he may have died on the way, but it slipped out by accident.
“Where’s your friend?” Uri had a grim look. Ernest’s eyes soften in sadness and there was a long silence before he finally answered.
“He’s dead. He didn’t even make it 5 steps outside when he was speared with a Stop Sign.” I suddenly felt guilty for asking him. I didn’t want to open old wounds.
“I’m sorry.” Ernest left the room, but I know he must be feeling depressed now.
I turned my attention to the closet. I grabbed an old Python Revolver, 5 boxes of ammo, and a baseball bat, but kept my switchblade hidden in my belt. Uri, like always, picked range over all. But his lethality boosted to more than just a pencil sized curtain rod the moment an old M1 Garand with Scope had caught his eye. He took an army knife with him.
Vivi kept her gun in favour of the other guns stashed in the closet. It was an army issued USP. It may hold special meaning to her. She did take a small hatchet though.
Ms. Aria gladly tossed her Staple Gun away for a Beretta 99. She says it’s been her dream to hold one of those. She took a Stun Gun with her.
Jessica and Dianne were giggling as they picked the same weapon, Colt 1911. Dianne didn’t take anything else but Jessica kept her Boxcutter with her.
Luke took an old looking Remington shotgun from the back of the closet.
“You’ve got an eye for weapons there, kid.” Ernest returned with his arms crossed, smiling. Luke smiled back.
“Ok, you guys. Stop gawking at your weapons and be careful where you aim. It’s about time we get this show on the road.”
The road was as empty as it got. Ernest was holding a Jack knife in one hand and a small map in the other.
“We’re heading right. Lucky for us, Yoli’s base of operation was on this town. See? That satellite over there is the same satellite we need to destroy.”
The building overlooking the satellite was a big, military like ensemble. It didn’t take a lot to convince me that getting in wouldn’t be a joyride in the park.
“The giggles out here aren’t the biggest threat we’ll be facing, so I suggest you guys stop yourself from getting Trigger Happy until we get to the compound. Got it? If you have to defend yourself, I suggest you go melee for a while.” With those words, Dianne looked at her feet. She obviously didn’t think it through when she opted to take the gun instead of picking up a side weapon. I sighed and gave her the bat I got in the closet. I still have my switchblade with me. Not as effective though.
“Move out.” We split into teams so if we ever get separated we’d be in a better position to defend ourselves. I was with Uri, Ms. Aria, Vivi, and that Mike fellow. He was holding a machete close to his chest and hid a Service Pistol on his belt.
“It’s too quiet.” As if Uri was jinxed, a rustling sound thrashed in an ally to the left. The other group formed a circle with everyone facing all directions to discern any other attacks. We were just walking carefully, trying not to aggravate any Giggles we saw.
Then it happened. An office worker giggle sky dived from a two story building with a kitchen knife, and a hobo giggle jumped out the trash from the ally.
The sky giggle fell on Mike, who managed to avoid the knife by inches. The Machete was knocked out of reach. Ms. Aria zapped the giggle to his back, and it fell off of Mike, staggering. Mike fumbled for his Service Pistol, but the Giggle shoved Ms. Aria away and stabbed Mike’s leg. I rushed at the Giggle with my switchblade and slashed at his back. There was a piercing cry, but he was still stubbornly alive. Mike was cradling his leg and the Giggle turned his attention to me.
“My salary is worth more than your petty little vigilante missions.” He said so ominously. My blade was raised up, and as the Giggle tried to rush me once more, his neck met with the tip of Uri’s Army knife.
He was dead.
The other group seemed to have been successful too. Ernest wiped his Jack Knife clean with the dead Hobo’s shirt.
“You guys alright?” He shouted.
“One casualty!” I shouted back.
Their group came to us. Mike was bleeding heavily. Luke seemed distraught. They were close, I assumed. They’ve been at each other’s side when we left 7-Eleven and had been talking at Ernest’s apartment.
Mike lay in pain. Jessica grabbed a first aid kit from her knapsack and grabbed some antiseptic and gauze.
She quickly patched him up, but it seems Mike couldn’t possibly go on with a bad leg.
“Sorry. I don’t think I can continue.” Mike said. Everyone was in thought. We couldn’t leave Mike there. Giggles might kill him here. And we’re already miles away from the apartment. Then we heard another rustling sound. We turned around, but it was only a small girl at the door behind us. She wasn’t a Giggle. A survivor.
“Tina! Look! There are people!” Then, a teenage girl with neck length hair and a punk rock shirt getup pulled her away from the slightly boarded up door. She was holding a gun.
“Who’s there?!” She shouted, aiming at us. We raised our hands. She withdrew the gun.
“Is everything alright?” She asked.
“Our friend is hurt. Can you help us?” She hesitated, but finally let Mike in.
“Aren’t you guys coming in?”
“No. We have to keep going. We have to do something right now, but we’ll come back for you guys when it’s all over.” I replied. She didn’t ask anymore and nodded.
“Well, I wish you good luck. Anna, say goodbye.” The small girl from before came back and gave us a cute Bye Bye as we walked away from the last sign of safety

So the story skimped a little, but thats alright! The last chapter of the Guts Trilogy will be the longest of the 3! Hope you enjoy!
Also, I got the idea to name the weapons from Battle Royale. I read it a few days ago, and the author didn't hold back on naming every weapon they had.
It was truly inspiring.

Emptiness Can be Filled

Emptiness Strikes You Out of Nowhere
Emptiness Don't Need Any Heaven
Feel The Fire Burning Out of Me
Emptiness Takes You To The Silence
Emptiness Makes People Live Life
Feel The Darkness Falling Down Right Now

These are the lyrics to Emptiness And... From The World Ends With You.
That's right. Emptiness.
Empty.
Empty.
Empty like a hollow stone. Empty like the insides of plastic.
Empty.
Empty, that's what Lukas was thinking. The World Really Ends With You...
The air was a crack, the winds were unjust.... The sky was literally falling. Or splitting into two? What was the point? It was the end. It was everyone's end.
What was the point of trying to save everyone's life? What was the point of doing what you could, when everyone you love is gone?
All he had left was himself.
He stood up and looked at the sky with a menacing grin. The back of his shirt tore into 2 slits. Wings as white as snow burst forth from his flesh.
As if the sky was made of glass, it shattered into endless shards and fell on all directions. Lukas was not hit once.
As he walked on, he didn't even attempt to fly away. If what those wings meant was true, then he was an Angel. He could leave and never look back.
But he couldn't. And because he couldn't, his wings started to turn black. He approached a limp body seated conveniently at a bench.
"Hillarie..." He gave the girl a goodbye kiss. Lukas was Hillarie's guardian angel. He was also her lover, but he failed.
Now he could join her in the afterlife.
He expected his wings to burst into feathers and leave him mortal to die.
But no, a hand grasped his arm.
"Hillarie." His wings returned to it's lush, white color. Hilarie was alive. She hung to him by his neck.
Lukas gave her a kiss of life. A second chance. But will it matter if they die here?
Lukas' wings said other wise. Unlike those common, wings protect people, Lukas wings burst like fireworks and a transparent barrier held them both. Lukas former wings, now feathers, circled them. They were floating. They were going to the great beyond.
Behind them, little lights followed them. Souls of those who perished.
Then similar barriers followed. There were other angels like him.
They were finally doing their duty. To guard those they wish to protect.
As they vanished to the sky, the world shattered.
They were in deep space.
"Lukas." This was where everything restarts.
Like a tv in reverse, the shattered pieces of the earth revolved and reassembled back. The souls flourished and started flowing into another crack. Unlike the sky that burst open, this one was a bright gate.
"Are you ready to start over?" With her smile, they flew back into a renewed earth.
All those in barriers as well returned, but far from them.
"Let's change the world."
Now the world, was theirs. The world was in their hands.
What was once Emptiness in their hearts...
Was now renewed hope that they can restart in the world.
Emptiness can be filled.

Quickie: Phatorn Dormitory

Like the title of this story, I made this in our free period in the library, so it's just gonna be a short story.
Or at least, I'll try.
Anyways:

Darkness was imminent.
No not THAT darkness. Just, night.
Evan Pyros knew he should be headed home, but what's the point of running away if you go back?
That place wasn't home. That place was what Hell would look like if it surfaced to the center of the earth.
"You ready?"
Avin Cole arrived. His ride out of here. He lived alone and he knew he'd be in peace.
"Just let me grab my stuff," He slung his backpack over his shoulder and prepared to leave.
It was either this, or he did what he never wanted to do again. Burn.
His name was Pyros for a reason. His family came from a long line Pyrokinetics. His father was a talented person, and he used his powers to help those in need. He wanted to be like him.
What a joke that was. Shouting and Shouting and fighting.
He wanted it to end.

They drove for what felt like 3 hours.
Was Avin's house really THAT far? No. Avin never planned on bringing him to his house.
But to his home.
A large, booming like school came into view.
"We're not in X-Men, are we?"
"Kinda like that."
This was a school alright. A dorm, maybe. The darkness loomed more as they entered. Evan produced a blue flame. That was how he differed from regular Pyrokinetics. His ability to use the sacred Blue Fire.
"This is our stop."

'Phatorn Dormitory.'
"Welcome to my home."
"Aren't you guys ripping off of X-Men?" Evan asked.
"You could say that, but really, this is just a school. You know, kinda like Sky High. But, we just teach you how to use your powers. Where you go after that is up to you. There are no heroes, or villains in this place. Just a place to learn. A place to blend."
A place to not feel like a freak.
With a heavy sigh, Evan Opened the doors.
Happy students flinging whatever power they have around flared around the school. Avin was right.
This is home.
And now, Evan WAS home.

Pain From the Fake

This was a song I made a few months ago out of boredom.
Of course, it's technically not a song cause it's all lyrics and no tones (Or maybe it does, I just dont want to sing) But put it up as a page.
So now, I'll put it up as a post so I could arrange The Ink Vault Section.
This isn't the first song I made, but it's the first I put up. Me putting up songs wont be very spontaneous as my stories though.

Sometimes when I get into the mood, I start making lyrics. I'm not the most musical person in the world but I do enjoy writing. Here's something I wrote. Sorry If it's not that good though:

Pain From The Fake

I tried too hard to smile
To bring myself closer
To give you everything kind
You took it without hesitation
And Now, you stab it in front of me
When you thought I didn’t know

Bridge:
So much for this

Chorus:
It’s done, its done, no more pain
I’ll be standing here, watching you walk
I cant stand to try and fix this anymore
I’ll keep my mouth shut, and play your game
I’ll keep my mouth shut, just for you
Mr. Fake

Day by day pass by
As I keep going with the flow
Reading through the lines
Laughing at your jokes
But things wont be the same
Cause this time, my eyes will see

Bridge and Chorus

You ask me what’s wrong
Well look at the mirror
You shout at me like this
But you deny your faults
You can’t walk out this door, sir
My heart is burning
My Heart is burning

Chorus

I tried too hard to smile
I tried, but it’s just no use...

Dragon Soul: A Skyrim Fanfic

Chapter 1:
7 years had passed since the defeat of Alduin . 7 Years since the end of the civil war. 7 years since the death of Ulfric Stormcloak. 7 years... Everything because of the Dragonborn, my father.
At least, to me he is. I don't own his blood, but to his blood, I owe him everything. He was more of a father to me then the parents that left me in that wretched orphanage. Everyday I lived my life in demands and pain from that old hag,Grelod the Kind. Irony to her name.
The moment the Dragonborn first stepped into Honorall Orphanage, I knew every single one of us were saved. He gave me one good look, and one good glare at Grelod, before leaving the orphanage. He came back the next day, taking Grelod to her private quarters. What first seemed like Grelod's regular means of conversation turned into screams of anger and fear before she let out one last cry as I heard her blood splatter across the room. Grelod was dead. As dead as a Draugr in the ruins out of Riften.
"Grelod is dead." Runa said. Every kid in the room stopped what they were doing, dropped everything and stood outside Grelod's door. It opened, The Dragonborn with his bloody sword and Grelod the Kind on the floor. Dead. He smiled at us and said.
"You're saved." He went out the door as Constance Micheal returned from the market.
"What are you all-" She didn't finish. Her bag of goods fell to the floor, apples and berries spilling in all directions. Her face was a mix of shock, horror, mortified, and a small hint of gladness. She started panicking, screaming in a panic. The other kids didn't bother with her and poked at Grelod's corpse. Me and Runa eventualy calmed her down. The guards came in from all the shouting and discovered Grelod. What we thought was gonna be an interrogation became comical amusement.
"Oh, Grelod the Kind is dead. Bitch had it coming." One said.
"Should we report this?" The other asked
"Naw, No one's gonna care about her anyways. Just haul her corpse to the Hall of the Dead. I think even the youngsters dont even care about her." And that was the last we ever so of that wicked witch. The guards hauled her bloody body to the Hall of the dead.
A day later, the Dragonborn came back.
Constance Micheal approached him.
"Is there something I can do for you?" She asked. I thought he only did this to get in her pants, but the next words surprised us all the most.
"I'm here to adopt one of your kids." He said. Constance was a stuttering moron by now.
"Tha-Tha- That's great! Um, uh, but first, I gotta ask a few questions and... Do you have a home for the child to stay?"
"I have one at Whiterun. Then there's one here at Riften. I had the alchemy lab turned into a room for the kid can stay."
"You can adopt 2, if you like."
"No, I already have one at home. Just one more to complete the package."
Then, there was silence.
It broke into a war of who was gonna go with him.
There was hair pulling, shouting, begging.
"Pick me!"
"No Me!"
"I can do chores! Pick me!"
Everyone was at a momentum. They wanted to get out of this orphanage.
I just stood there and stared at the man. The man who gladly dirtied his hands to free us.
And he stared back.
"I'll take him." He said so calmly.
"He looks like a little warrior."
I was still standing there, with my mouth slightly open. The shock had come to me late, and everyone was looking at me with curt jealousy.
"Samuel? Aren't you going to meet your new father?" I casually walked over to him, still in a state of shock. Everyone parted a way for me.
"Looks, like your coming home with me, Kiddo."
Then, just like that, I was the Dragonborn's new son.

~This was one of the first things I wanted to publish, but never had the time to work on. So, today, after publishing the first Guts chapter, I was like, eh, What the Hell.
It dawned on to me that I've made a lot of these short stories, and most of them are ending up as series.
The Only Exception would be Free Fall. (If you read the story, the pun was intended.)
So now, I realized how much I should be working on. Then I also realized how much I've neglected working on my comic My Parents are Nobodies, again. It's nothing new, but I bet my readers are pissed.
Well, hope you enjoyed. See Ya!

Guts: Ignition

"Well you find your strength in Solutions, But I like the tension
And not Always knowing the answers, but you're gonna lose it."
                                      -Monster(Paramore)
June 15, Year 2038
It's been 4 years since the Ignition began.
4 years since I ran from my parents
4 years since I ran from our house
4 years since the world went batshit crazy.
4 years ago, some sort of green lit fire engulfed the minds of people. The Ignition.
Nearly everyone stopped in their tracks.
Their faces contorted to a smile as wide as 4 trucks colliding.
Their minds, taken from them. Their will, replaced by the fire. We call that fire, Gyros.
No one knows where it came from. No one knows why it exists. No one knows how to stop it.
I've been living my life in a desolate school building with my friend Urien and some survivors from our class.
Majority of the survivors are teenagers and children. There were some adults, but we were wary.
"Wirick. We're running out of food." Jessica, the class president made rounds around the room, and reported to me if there were problems
We were holed up in room 304. We boarded up the doors and windows with desks and chairs. But, during these pressing situations such as food scarcity, 3 brave souls go out of their way to grab food from the cafeteria or if their feeling lucky, they run to the 7 Eleven nearby.
"Hey Uri. Up for some shopping?" He grinned.
"Count on it." We stood up from our spot.
"Any volunteers?!" I shouted across the room.
None at first. Just the usual stares.
Then a hand raised.
Our english teacher, Ms. Aria.
"Adults have to be an example at some point in this fucked up world." I Smiled. Ms. Aria has been one of my favorite teachers. She was the one that pushed me to the path of writing.
Too bad we can't do anything about that right now.
"Jessica. Weapons." She unlocked a cabinet.
"What'll you have?" She asked
"I'll take the switchblade."
"You already have that." She pointed to my belt. I was just messing with her. I never part with it. EVER.
"Fine. Give me the pipe." She tossed me an old, rusted pipe I found in the bathroom a year ago.
"Curtain rod." Urien said. He always picks range over lethality. The rod was about as tall as a spear, but it's as thick as a #2 mongol pencil. The tip was purposely deformed to create a sharp edge.
"Ms. Aria?" asked Jessica.
"I'm cool. I have this." She pulls out a Staple gun from her purse. She's always had it for the purpose of putting up banners. I never pegged it as a weapon among ours.
"Alright. Give us the backpacks and pull off the blockade." The only means of escape from this room is the blackboard.
From here, you just have to take the desk out of the way and pull the board to the right. We're instantly in room 305.
I drew up my mental map of the school. It may have been months since the last time I got out of our room, but I knew where to go.
"So, Cafeteria or 7-Eleven?" I asked.
Silence.
"Hey. I'm feeling lucky. lets hit both." Urien's luck is dead on. When he says he's feeling lucky, he actually GETS lucky.
"Fine with me." said Ms.Aria.
We were on the third floor. The entirety of the third floor was safe, but we decided to board up the stairs and stay in just 1 room for extra measure.
The second floor is a different story...
Some of those affected by the Gyros still wander the area. We call them Giggles. One, because of their weird smile. Two, because they giggle when they decide to attack us.
Giggles aren't like Zombies, or infected, or whatever the hell you call those.
They still have their mental ability. They can think, they feel. Whatever. But the Gyros influence has only allowed them to act for the sake of their masters.
They cannot do what they wish anymore.
Caution is needed when approaching these things. They aren't people anymore. They will attack on sight.
"Ok. The moment we get to the second floor, no one lets go of their weapons." Everyone nods.
It's been quiet...So far.
The east side's stairs to the first floor was destroyed so we have to take the west side.
Rooms were devoid of doors, some replaced with boarded up wood.
I can assume that there are other survivors, but it's everyone for themselves at the time.
"Hello." We turned around.
Our principal, Mr. Randy stood before us. He was holding a fire axe. His smile said it all.
"Loitering at school is a no no. You should know that." With that, he rushed at us, bashing the ax at the floor.
It was stuck. With all my force, I bashed Mr. Randy's face in, flushing out previous memories of him.
He wasn't human anymore.
I picked up the fire ax and was ready to go when Ms. Aria aimed her Staple Gun.
"Ms. Aria?" Her face was serious, and for a second, I thought she'd gone mad. Then she fired.
Not at me. But to my back.
Ms. Lauren lay dead with a staple on her eye.
"I never liked her. Dragged on about cats aaaaaall day." True. It didn't help that she taught History. We were barely awake for her classes.
We reached the cafeteria.
"Ok, let's split up. Grab as much as you can." I unhook my backpack and searched the kitchen.
"Youuuuu shouldn't beee here." Oh crap!
The lunch lady was holding a ladle and the huge smile that made Joker look sad.
I wasn't particularly fond of her because of her gruff appearance and horrible personality.
This just takes things to a whole new level. I raised the ax.
She was quicker.
She struck my face with the ladle and kicked my stomach. Her huge legs only furthered my pain. The ax was knocked out of my reach. The pipe was with Ms. Aria. I had to do something.
"Well? How does it taste? Years, and years of cooking, all I hear from you kid is 'Oh god, what is this shit?!' Well I hope you like my shit now!" Her maniacal laugh filled the room. Where are Ms. Aria and Uri?!
They were preoccupied. I have to do something. There was a small chair by me. I grabbed it and turned the lunch lady over.
"That wasn't very nice." She spat.
"So is kicking a student."
I stood up and held my stomach, maintaining my balance with a table. There was a knife. I eyed it and I met with her eyes.
Then, there was the struggle. Her smile, so wicked. Our hands wrestling for it.
I somehow won the knife. I kicked her to the gut and stabbed her neck.
"They said that for a reason. Your food IS shit."
I ransacked the kitchen of what food I could grab, which wasn't more than a few canned goods and chips, and ran to the kitchen door, but someone beat me to it.
"Wirick! Are you alright?" Talk about late reactions.
"Yeah. Just had a talk with the lunch lady. Where were you guys?!"
"Ms Aria got bit by Fergy. He's a giggles now." I managed an "Oh" Unlike Zombie bites. Giggles don't infect others. Really, it was more of a strike to the brain, and we were immune to it. Being bit doesn't really give you anything except a flesh wound to be annoyed about.
"He wasn't in his right mind to begin with. The Gyros just made things worse for him." Ms. Aria added.
It was true. Fergy was a pretty fucked up person before all this shit ever happened.

Our food hunt at the cafeteria wasn’t such a big hit. We managed a few things from the kitchen and some fallen snacks from a vending machine Urien broke.
The nearest 7-Eleven was just across the street. We never dared to venture out of the school. But today was Urien’s lucky day. I took his word. I’m just hoping his guts are right, yet again.
I looked out the window. There weren’t a lot of giggles outside the school
Just an old lady in a bench and the cashier for 7-Eleven outside, near a trashcan.
We could take them.
“On the count of three. One...Two...THREE!”
We burst out the door. Granny Giggle stared at us and got to her feet with an old cane.
She didn’t reach us. Urien had speared her forehead.
Cashier Giggle was much smarter.
He grabbed the trash can and threw it at us.
“I don’t get paid too much for this.” He said.
The can nearly hit Ms. Aria. It toppled to the ground. He grabbed a pocket knife from his pocket and dashed at us.
Ms. Aria was firing, but he was quick enough to dodge the staples. He jumped as Urien struck, evading the curtain pole.
He shoved them both out of the way and kicked my ax to the ground. He raised the knife at me. That’s when I remembered.
I had my own knife. The switchblade. The knife I could’ve used on the lunch lady a while ago if I weren’t too preoccupied from avoiding death.
I unhooked it from my belt and pierced his throat with surprising speed. I pushed him off of me.
“You ok?” Uri asked. I nodded. “Let’s just get some food.”
Before we even made 5 steps inside the building, a gun was pointed to my forehead.
“Don’t move.” I raised my hands and looked at the holder with fear. She wasn’t a giggles. She lowered the gun.
“Oh good. You’re not one.” The girl was about the same age as I am. Her hair was a wavy brunette, and her eyes sparkled blue. “We’ve got survivors.”
From behind the counter, a bunch of teenagers, some of who I recognize, stand up.
Some of them were from my class.
“Wirick! Urien! Ms. Aria!” It was Dianne. Jessica’s best friend.
“D! You’re alright!” And Uri’s girlfriend for that matter. They shared a surprisingly long kiss.
“Dianne, you know these guys?”
“They’re from my class. Wirick, this is Vivi. She helped us escape from giggles and set up this 7-Eleven as our base. Vivi, this is Wirick, my classmate, Uri, my boyfriend, and Ms. Aria, our English Teacher.”
There was a mutual hello in the air.
“We just came from the school We’re low on food. Think you guys can spare?”
“Sure. Luke. Get us some food.” She turned to me. “Bagged or Plastic?” I laughed at the joke.
“We’re going for plastic. Hey, why don’t you come with us? The larger our numbers, the larger our chances to survive.” Vivi contemplated the offer.
“How many are your survivors?” she asked. I counted up to the ones we managed to rack up. “We’re around 8. Most of them from our class and some adults. Dianne, Jessica’s there too.” Dianne’s eyes sparkled with tears and relief and sighed.
“Ohhh, thank god. I thought-“ She was interrupted by a rap on the door.
Jessica. She was bloody to her left arm and held a bloody box cutter with her right hand. With her were Mr. Hudson and Gary from Science.
Dianne quickly let them in.
“We have to get out of here” She coughed. “The school got overrun with Giggles with weapons. We barely got away.” I thought about the other survivors.
“They’re dead, if that’s what you’re thinking.” No...
“We have to patch you up first. Mike! Get me some gauze!” Dianne shouted.
“D... You’re alright.” Jessica hugged her.
After patching her up with gauze, everyone packed up rationed food enough to last 10 days and medical supplies that were scavenged from the run down 7-Eleven.
“We’re getting out here through the backdoor.” Vivi’s second in command, a blond haired guy armed with a crowbar, called Luke commanded.
“Where are we going?” I asked. There was silence. Then, Vivi turned around to face me.
"Anywhere but here."

Guts Series

This was originally supposed to be a one-shot short story. Got a little carried away, went overboard and the story became too big. I had to cut it up to three parts.
So today, I present the first part of the Guts series.
It's my way of bringing out an apocalypse without going with the usual cliche's of infected or zombies. I thought of trying something new.
This was based on a short story I was going to submit to a competition. If I had won, the short story would have been turned into a short film. But, meh, I was so unsatisfied with the original draft, I shelved the story and it remained in my laptop for a while. But when I was thinking up of a new Idea for a new story, this really just popped into my head.
So, with that in mind, I hope you enjoy.
