All That Began

“Rooms are clear.”
“Check that study!”
Nothing else filled Karen Hunning’s living room besides her father’s scattered books and his corpse. Blood everywhere.
A 7 year old Karen was holed up in the secret tunnel behind a bookcase that Karen’s brother, Jim, insisted on having. It connected the main house and Jim’s house. Karen’s mother was outside the tunnel, comforting a crying Karen.
“Whatever you do Karen, do not leave this room. If you hear me scream, I want you to crawl as far as you can from the hall. No one will find you here because no one knows about this secret room, do you hear me? No one but us. Don’t stop running until you hit a door. Your brother lives there. He knows what to do. Remember that I will always...ALWAYS...Love you. Mama will always love you.” Those were the last words Karen heard from her as she kissed her in the forehead. She didn’t understand why she didn’t go with her instead. But Monica Hunning knew. That trap door was meant to save Karen and Jim knew that one day the Gansd Family would one day find them and purge their parents. Her parents had already accepted their deaths and were prepared to die for Karen’s safety.
Karen knew nothing of her family’s past, but she knew the moment her brother left home for reasons he refuses to explain, they had past dealings that made them enemies. All she knew was they were a good family who helped the poor and weak. Monica knew more, but nothing has been said about this. Now, she faces the nightmare she prepared for years ago and pulled out an M1911 pistol she saved from her darker days.
If Monica had to die, she would die fighting. At least take someone with her and keep her daughter safe. She pushed her daughter out of the doors way as she pulled a copy of Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick, tossed it to Karen and closed the small door camouflaged as a small set of books. In a second, her mother was gone. Back into the study. Back into danger and she was in the darkness.
“Monica... It’s been years.” Monica turned around
“Cut the crap Jerry.” She pointed her gun at him. “You’re not getting anything out of me.”
“Oh, I know that. But I know you have family, and I know your son loves his sister so dearly. So if you kindly tell me where your sweet, sweet daughter is, I will end your life with the quickest way possible.”
She responded with a shot to his eye. He fell facedown, still slightly alive, trying to stop the blood flow. Monica stepped on his neck with her heels repeatedly until he died. 2 others came into the study, Monica quickly shot one repeatedly until he also died, but the time to reload her gun was enough to give the last man time to tackle her to the ground. She screamed
Screamed
Karen’s sign to crawl like hell. And she did. She did just that and cried so quietly as she crawled until there was space enough for her to stand up and run. She heard a distinct gunshot and she knew.
Her Mama was no more.
Tears and snot started flowing like a powerful waterfall. Soon she was in front of a green door.
“Big Brother! Open the door! Big Brother. Jim! Help!”
It didn’t take 3 minutes for Jim to notice. As soon as he opened the door, she jumped at him crying.
He knew this day would come...

(18 Years Later: Present Time)
“Karen, are you sure you’re ready for this?”
“Please, how many have I taken down so far Jim? You worry too much.”
“But this is the Tinfurd Mafia we’re talking about. This is very serious business”
Karen Hunning, now 25, is running the family business with his now 39 year old brother.
She had her gear ready, and she didn’t like that her brother didn’t think she could handle it.
It was simply robbing a bank. Sure it’s a mafia bank, but it certainly wont stop her.
“We need the money. Besides, being an office worker can get boring sometimes. Plus, who’s going to feed those kids on the alley just across the street?”
Jim gave in. But this was still the mafia, and he knew very well what a mafia family is capable of doing. He opened his backpack and fished out a small box.”
“Take it.” He said. Karen took it without hesitation and quickly opened it in anticipation.
“A Stun Gun?” She asked.
“You can never be too careful.” Too careful? She has a gun enough for her to scare off the weak and kill off the dangerous. She also has a Switchblade for the more quiet missions.  A Stun Gun is basically just telling the attacker to back away. She didn’t say anything else and readied the rest of her things.
“Ok, let’s go over this one last time.” Karen said. She opened her phone and a small map projected itself.
“From here, I’m going to go by that ally and climb that fence. I can knock out or kill any of the guards blocking the back entrance, then dispose of them in the dump nearby. Then, I should be able to make my way to room 98 where the portrait of Hayley Williams hangs. Behind that is a door leading to the true interior of the bank.” Jim Nods.
“Once you’re there, you make your way to room 15. Any men you see, you may take care off. But be discrete. You will then use the card I gave you to suck the Mafia’s dirty money dry from their Personal ATM that only THEY can see. Our bug from the inside has already made sure that they will not be aware of any money loss after you use that card. After that, you get out immediately.”
With everything prepared, Karen got into her hoodie and left.
Transportation was handled by Jim. His friend, Joe, picked her up and dropped her off the street just behind the bank.
So, like the plan, she had gotten into an Alley quick. She peeled off her hoodie and put on her gloves and glasses.
“Don’t move.” A voice behind her said. She hasn’t even started her mission and she’s been already spotted?
“Give me your money.” Oh, just a regular mugger. She sighed and was going to grab her pistol when she remembered the Stun Gun. She didn’t want to draw out a lot of attention.
With her reflexes, she managed to grab the muggers wrist and bind him to the floor.
“Ow! You crazy bi-” He didn’t finish that. All that was heard was a faint crackle of electricity. The mugger was on the floor unconscious. She tied him to a telephone pole.
“Now I see why women buy these things.” She was fascinated by her new weapon.
The back door was guarded by one man. He was big enough to scare off even dust bunnies.
She climbed the fence and slowly crept up the wall. She threw a small rock at a bush and the guard turned his attention.
She snuck behind him and quickly slit his throat.
“Sorry about that.” She said so morbidly. She dragged the man’s body and threw it in a dumpster. But not before taking his wallet.
“You won’t be needing that anymore.”
The floor mat was conveniently far from the blood spilled on the doorway so Karen covered the blood neatly with a welcome mat.
The bank was big and would have been easy to get lost in if Karen hadn’t brought her map with her.
Room 98 was small and simple room. A break room if you may. Small couches, a mini fridge and a dining table were laid out on the area. The Hayley Williams Portrait stood out in front of her and she knew it wasn’t going to be hard getting in.
The door opened.
A woman, probably in her 20’s just entered the room. She hasn’t noticed Karen yet because she closed the door behind her, giving Karen enough time to Taze her and put her in the couch. Judging by her appearance, One can assume she was one of the regular employees that had no idea that this bank was owned  by the mafia.
“I’m sorry...” She read her name tag. “Ashley. Wrong place, wrong time.”
Karen quickly pressed a button on the portrait and it swung fast. She entered and closed the portrait door behind her.
“What kind of Mafia bank  IS this?! This has been way too easy.”
She made one step before a blade nearly sliced her into a dozen bits.
“Spoke too soon.” This area was bricked. So this is the mafia bank. To get to the first hall, she has to solve the rooms puzzle without dying.
The Mafia was prepared for attacks. The tough guys outside were just decoration.
Karen took out 2 pieces of Breath mints.
“She threw the first one on the left. The floor burst into flames. She threw the next one to the right. Nothing happened.
“Jim did NOT tell me about the traps.” She muttered and stepped to her right.
“Crap, I’m out of breath mints.” With nothing left to lose, she threw the breath mint case in front of her. A single tile hole formed in front of her. If she wanted to pass, she was going to hop over one step at a time. She did so with ease and reached the end of the door.
“Didn’t even break a sweat!”
Little did she know that the puzzles weren’t over. The next room was a small hall with no doors, just brick walls.
“Shit, there’s more.”
She felt the walls to find an opening. There
The right wall was fake. She pushed one of the bricks that were conveniently loose.
She was inside the tunnel of the true bank.
Now the next room was where her mission truly begins.
“Ahh, I really need to lay off the Chinese food.” A voice from behind came. He saw Karen and attempted to pull out his gun. Karen beat him to it and shot him in the forehead.
Good thing the gun had a silencer on it.
She had 2 choices. Leave the corpse there, or throw him in the room in front of her.
She chose the latter.
Luckily, the room was a supply closet no one ever used.
Calling the mission easy was a bad idea. Even with her map, the inner bank was totally confusing.
Every now and then, she’d have to hide from approaching thugs.
She didn’t want to waste all her bullets.
“Hey!”
Shit. She thought to herself.
“Who are you supposed to be?” He was wary but not aware of her identity. A new one, she thought.
“I-I’m New. I got lost, wandering around.”
He was still suspicious of her. Scratching his head.
“I didn’t see you in initiation... Are you sure?”
He was gonna compromise her if she didn’t think of something.
“Um yeah. I wanted to look around but I suddenly had to pee. I’m looking for the bathroom. Really! I’m going to burst any second now, uh...”
“Coby” His normal build and normal height may mean he’s young. Karen didn’t have the heart to kill someone whose life was still starting. Even if he did join the mafia.
“Coby. Haha. Yeah. So, can you show me where?” Coby turned around.
“Alright. But next time, I’m not going to do you anymore favors. You’re going to have to-“
Kzzaatt.
Coby fell to the ground, face first.
“Sorry.”
Karen opened the door beside her and threw Coby in.
She was going to continue on when she realized the plaque on the door she threw Coby in was the room she was looking for all that time.
Room 15.
A facepalm for herself was in order. She entered the door, nudging Coby out of the way to get the door to open more.
Room 15 was white room that was so wide, you could see everything in the room from Karen’s angle.
A Blue ATM stood in the middle of the room.
“Finally”
She approached the ATM and placed the card her brother had given her.
“Well, well.” Karen turned around.
Beside the fallen Coby stood a man in a lavish looking suit.
His build meant trouble. His face bound with amusement. His smile, seemingly casual with a sinister intent. Karen hoped it wasn’t who she thought it was.
With his hair, a mix of black and brown, and eyes as blue as the sea, she knew she was right.
Gyle Winfreed.
Tinfurd’s most ruthless and cunning man.
His cleverness hides beneath his brawn, yet his eyes show a glimmer of that sly mind.
Just one look. It was all that Karen needed to know.
He was the real deal.
One look had intimidated Karen easier than 50 rats coming out of a box.
Yet, she felt a connection.
A zing, if you might.
From this man who might be her caped, or rather, suited assassin.
“What is Ms. Steal to Donate doing here?”
Jim had warned her about him.
“If you ever see him, Run. Forget the case. Just run like hell. You can’t take him. If you’re in a room and you can’t get out, I want you to keep calm and distract him long enough. Shoot him maybe, but that’s not gonna cut it. He’s fast and smart. He wont be hit by a simple bullet. Once you find that opening, run and never look back.”
Karen took a deep breath and aimed her pistol at him.
He raised an eyebrow and gave a coy smile.
“A silenced Five Seven. Don’t know how you got your hands on that, but I’m pretty sure that peashooter can’t kill me.”
The transaction was complete. The card had taken all the money.
She needed only to get out.
“I could kill you, you know? I could put you through a fate worst than death.”
Karen had to get out. If she had to fight her way through, she would.
Without a moments hesitation, she took out her switchblade and threw it at him.
He quickly evaded it to his right. The blade stuck to the wall.
Karen knew she would miss her shots, but that was the point.
She removed the silencer and open fired.
She knew this room was sound proof so it wouldn’t matter.
Gyle evaded the shots as Karen quickly walked to the door.
Now their positions were switched.
Gyle was by the atm. Karen was at the door with a still unconscious Coby.
“Very clever.”
Karen found herself smiling at the compliment.
“But, two can play it that game.” He pulled out his own gun.
A .44 Magnum Revolver. To Karen’s Five Seven, Gyle’s own gun was a pistol among pistols.
Karen attempted to open the door, but Gyle had already locked it with something.
To say that Karen was clever, Gyle had forgotten to add “But not clever enough.”
Gyle had fired, missing Karen by inches. Intentional.
Gyle’s aim was as good as a hawk being fired by another hawk with a gun loaded with hawks.
Karen’s gun was empty. She had to ditch it to run around. All she had left was her Stun Gun.
Jim was right. You can never be too careful...
Now her plan involved her getting close enough to actually disarm Gyle. An extremely dangerous plan that would undeniably be fatal was she to fail.
She did as Gyle did. Run from the shots fired, but Gyle did not move. She was hoping for that.
She was inches away from him. Face to face. His gun aimed at her. Her Stun Gun, still in her backpocket.
“Oh. So this is how it’s going to be.” He gave a cold grin as he pointed the magnum at her.
“I wonder what Dora the Explorer has left in her backpack? Is the Map going to save her? Will you say, Gyle no swiping at me?”
Though he mocked her, she still felt an unexpected pull to him.
But she couldn’t fall now. He was the enemy. He didn’t feel anything for her.
She dashed at him.
“Well, that’s a bold move.” He said.
Then, with quick succession, Karen pulled out the Stun Gun and aimed for his hand.
Success.
The gun flew into the air and Gyle fell to the floor, clutching his hand.
Karen caught the gun before it hit the floor.
She pointed it at Gyle.
A smile
A sincere, but somehow sly smile.
“That was surprising.” He said out loud
Karen felt a thickness in the air.
Her insides warming. Her heart beating faster.
Without a second thought, Karen grabbed his face and planted one on him.
A kiss that lasted for about 25 seconds before Karen pulled away.
“...No, I take it back. That was.” After those quick words, Gyle looked visibly stunned at his enemy’s action. His enemy, who attempted to escape with all their money, had kissed him.
And he had just accepted it just like that.
The awkward silence that filled the room disappeared until he had his turn to grab HER in the face and kiss her as well.
They made out for an entire 4 minutes before noticing Coby was starting to wake up.
Gyle grabbed the stun gun from Karen and quickly tazed the poor boy’s neck.
He fell to the ground again. Unconcious.
“...I.” Karen was speechless at her actions.
“Shh...” Gyle put a finger in her lips before retracting it in favor of his own lips.
“I... I have to get out of here.” Karen was blushing.
Gyle had realized it. She had fallen for him. And he had for her too.
Love is a very mysterious thing.
Karen had always imagined herself dating a regular man from the office.
Gyle on the other hand imagined himself with some girl from another mafia family whose alliance with Tinfurd extended to more than just handshakes.
But this is where they had got themselves.
Karen was desperately shaking her head, her cheeks so red.
Gyle felt his cold heart warming.
His eyes saw the beauty that was in front of him.
His heart actually FELT something.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Gyle walked up to her and hugged her like the end of the world was about to start.
“I’m going to get you out of here.”

End:
Did you like that? Sorry it took so long.
This is the first prologue of All That Is Waiting.
The story that started it all.
It’s kinda boring at first, but I hope you enjoyed.
And now you know why there’s a Stun Gun at the first story.
Tune in for the next story.
