Empty, that's what Lukas was thinking. The World Really Ends With You...
The air was a crack, the winds were unjust.... The sky was literally falling. Or splitting into two? What was the point? It was the end. It was everyone's end.
What was the point of trying to save everyone's life? What was the point of doing what you could, when everyone you love is gone?
All he had left was himself.
He stood up and looked at the sky with a menacing grin. The back of his shirt tore into 2 slits. Wings as white as snow burst forth from his flesh.
As if the sky was made of glass, it shattered into endless shards and fell on all directions. Lukas was not hit once.
As he walked on, he didn't even attempt to fly away. If what those wings meant was true, then he was an Angel. He could leave and never look back.
But he couldn't. And because he couldn't, his wings started to turn black. He approached a limp body seated conveniently at a bench.
"Hillarie..." He gave the girl a goodbye kiss. Lukas was Hillarie's guardian angel. He was also her lover, but he failed.
Now he could join her in the afterlife.
He expected his wings to burst into feathers and leave him mortal to die.
But no, a hand grasped his arm.
"Hillarie." His wings returned to it's lush, white color. Hilarie was alive. She hung to him by his neck.
Lukas gave her a kiss of life. A second chance. But will it matter if they die here?
Lukas' wings said other wise. Unlike those common, wings protect people, Lukas wings burst like fireworks and a transparent barrier held them both. Lukas former wings, now feathers, circled them. They were floating. They were going to the great beyond.
Behind them, little lights followed them. Souls of those who perished.
Then similar barriers followed. There were other angels like him.
They were finally doing their duty. To guard those they wish to protect.
As they vanished to the sky, the world shattered.
They were in deep space.
"Lukas." This was where everything restarts.
Like a tv in reverse, the shattered pieces of the earth revolved and reassembled back. The souls flourished and started flowing into another crack. Unlike the sky that burst open, this one was a bright gate.
"Are you ready to start over?" With her smile, they flew back into a renewed earth.
All those in barriers as well returned, but far from them.
"Let's change the world."
Now the world, was theirs. The world was in their hands.
What was once Emptiness in their hearts...
Was now renewed hope that they can restart in the world.
Emptiness can be filled.
