Shift: Concrete Halt

~~~~There's a Time and a Place to Die, But this ain't it~~~~~~
The sun was annoying with it's bright light.
Quin just wanted to get this day over with.
But on a school day, time looked like it wanted to move slower than usual.
You're such a dick, father time She would say to herself As she prepared for school, the most bizarre thing happened.
A small pocket radio fell from the ceiling.
"Shit. I'm not in Silent Hill, am I?"
On closer inspection, she was actually wrong. The Pocket Radio was actually just a pocket watch.
She wasn't wearing her glasses. No wonder.
"It was stuck to 8:34 A.M. The hands were not moving.
"That's weird..." She did like the design on the watch though. She decided to pocket it. That was it's purpose. To be in it's pocket.
She took a quick shower and prepared for school. Her Knapsack was an old, pink bag she had gotten from her best friend, Kelly.
"Mom, I'm going to school!" She shouted. Her mom was just in the living room, sitting in front of the T.V. She wasn't moving.
"Mom?" She thought of the worst, but thought she was just sleeping and shrugged it off.
There was a breeze she couldn't explain.
The clouds where still, and the sky was more than just gray.
The sun, which had just blasted her face awake with sunshine was no where to be seen. Still, there was light. As she walked on, she noticed other students stopped in the middle of the road.
Your shirt maybe red, but I doubt it's red enough to stop a car. She thought.
More students. She couldn't wait to get to school.
"Kelly!" She saw her friend walking. At least she wasn't being particularly weird today. There was a look of surprise in Kelly's face and she changed it immediately to make her unsuspecting.
"Quin!" Kelly hugged her.
"Something strange is going on..." Quin was trembling. Not the kind you'd see in fear, but trembling.
They decided to walk to school to ignore the apparent halt in time. Leaves were in equilateral sides, hanging mid air.
The classroom was an eerie, gray. They were the only students.
After an hour of waiting, Quin decided to check her phone.
"It's...Eight Thirty Four... How could this be?"
She had insulted father time. Now they were stuck IN time. She checked the pocket watch. The strange insignia on the design was starting to appall her. That's when Kelly finally stood up.
"So you have one too." She said. There was a dark tone in her voice and grabbed Quin by the wrist.
"We have to go." Without explanation, they dashed out of the classroom.
"Where are we going?!" Kelly's face was completely still as they dashed to the girls bathroom.
The girls bathroom. A haven to girls of all ages. They're always in packs and are always doing something in there. They hid in the last stall.
"Kelly! What's going on?!" Kelly took out a red rock and flushed it down the toilet.
It was like Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
The toilet disappeared and a spiral staircase left in its wake.
"This way..." Quin was too shocked to question what was going to happen next.
They reached the bottom and a bunch of students... The Student Council... Stood in front of a desk with 7 pocket watches.
Kelly was the Secretary. That explained a lot.
"I've found the 8th keeper."
Keeper? Quin thought. Was this about the pocket watch?
Xavier, the student council president approached her.
"You are Quin Garro, right?" She nodded silently.
"We are the council of time. Those who have recieved Father Time's blessing."
Father time...
Quin felt a facepalm from the back of her mind.
Of course! She insulted Father Time! Now she was part of this mess!
"If...If its about the watch... I'll gladly hand it over."
Xavier chuckled.
"This is not your doing. Every month, Father Time picks a keeper to protect the 12 hands of time. You are the 8th keeper. The 8th hand."
"You mean... I'm 8 O'clock?" He nods.
"Father time has protected the flow of nature in sync with Mother Nature, his wife. But recently, he has slowed, weakened. A malevolent force, still unknown to this day, has been attacking the flow. It's only a matter of time before they overcome this and destroy the flow of time. Stopping nature from it's tracks and be free to change anything. Father time has given me, the first hand, the task to gather the 12 hands to fight this heavy attack. Mother Nature can only do so much for him. You have noticed how time seems to move slower, don't you?"
She has. She just insulted Father Time minutes ago about it.
"Will you do the honors of being the 8th hand?" Not like she has a choice or anything.
The heavy task was upon her. She has to do it. Can she?
"Ok." Kelly hugged her. She was also part of this.
"Kelly... Why didn't you tell me?"
"It was supposed to be a secret. We cannot disclose information about our powers. Each watch can do one thing and change into one weapon. If I tell you, you'd have been silenced. No not killed, just silenced."
She felt a shudder.
"What time are you?"
"5th."
Quin grasped her watch.
"Please place the watch in the table to prepare your ceremony as a keeper."
She shut her eyes, preparing for whatever job she must do.
She was a keeper.
She was the 8th hand.
